Stories of the Ireland Rally – Flying the Figaro Flag

Janet and Steve's Figaro adorned with flagsOne of the standout moments on the Ireland Rally back in May was the gathering of our lovely cars at Kilkenny Castle. One of the most eye-catching cars was that belonging to Janet and Steve because of their fantastic array of flags.

We couldn’t help digging in a bit more to find out all about their collection.

Hi Steve and Janet – your car looks great! Where are all your flags and stickers from?

Our flags are from the rallies in Devon, Cornwall, the Isle of Man, the 25th birthday, the 30th birthday, Laon, and the Cotswolds. The stickers are from the same events but with the addition of the Isle of Wight.

flags on the Figaro at the Ireland RallyWhich one is your favourite flag and why?

The 25th birthday – this was the first time we’d seen hundreds of Figaros, row upon row, and all colour coded too!

Have you lost any flags on your way round events?

We haven’t got the flag for our first rally on the Isle of Wight.  [Anyone got a spare one to complete the collection? If so let us know and we can put you in touch! – Ed]

flags on the FigaroDo you have any tips for holding on to them?

Pure luck! Having a great co-pilot who reminds me not to open the passenger window is very helpful!

Is there a flag you wish you’d had?

A Scotland one would have been nice, we imagine it would have been beautiful scenery there.

Have you been asked any funny questions about a flag?

Yes – how do we manage to hang onto them! 😂😂😂

flags on the FigaroHow do you see out of the rear window with so many stickers on there?

Ok at the moment, there’s some space in the centre, but we’ll have to work something out for future rallies !

What’s your favourite sticker and why?

The Laon sticker has fabulous artwork, and is a great reminder of driving in that wonderful medieval town

What was your favourite moment of the Ireland rally and why?

For me [Steve], it’s Dolly singing “We’ll Meet Again” on the last morning – it brought a tear to the eye thinking of those funny Fig folk who we were lucky to meet again in Ireland, and hope to meet again in the future. She did the same at the Wales rally – singing and dancing away in the car park, music in the background as we left for home.

For me, [Janet] my favourite was seeing all our lovely Figgys lined up outside the castle, sharing with people how wonderful these quirky little cars are.

Thanks for chatting with us, Janet and Steve. We look forward to seeing your collection developing in coming years!
