Mathewsons Live 2026 – 23rd August 2026

Our North East England Community Chapter Coordinator, Mia, organised a super event for some lovely Figaros at the Great Yorkshire Showground on 23^rd August 2026. Read on to find out more about a chance encounter, balloons and cake!

“There are few things in life more delightful than a flock of Figaros! And for this event, we had nine cars, all parked up close together in a colourful huddle.

“It’s been two years since the previous Mathewsons event, then known as Bangers and Cash, and it is one of the biggest motoring events in the North East of England. This time the event was held at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate, and the displays were spread over a much larger area. This made the space feel less busy and more relaxed.

“What I love about our Figaro get togethers is that there are always some familiar faces, and some club members I am meeting for the first time. I love how diverse we all are in our backgrounds and interests, but that we all love our Figaros. One of the people I met for the first time was Jacq. After chatting for a while, we realised that our cars had previously met in the car park of a shopping centre. I saw a Figaro that day, parked next to it and left a note under its windscreen wiper. When I got back, that car was gone but there was a tissue with a bright red lipstick kiss under my Figaro’s wiper. As Jacq and I were talking at the event, she suddenly dashed off to her car, and came back with the note, (a love letter, she called it), and asked if I had left it. And indeed, it was the note I’d left. I then retrieved the kissed tissue, and we obviously had to get a photo to celebrate the amazing coincidence.

“During the afternoon, we also celebrated the Figaro’s 35th birthday. Claire had brought a cake, and Jacq came prepared with a banner and balloons. Besides eating cake, there were also a lot of chatting, a lot of walking around looking at other displays, and a lot of introducing our cars to people who had never seen them before. A few of us even managed to squeeze in a little nap during the day.
