Sanford Doi – Nissan Figaro Personalised Number Plates

UK owners can only look on in envy at some of the mouth-watering personalised number plates that appear on our us members’ figs!

After seeing ‘MYFIGY’ posted by Sanford Doi on our USA Facebook Chapter Group we were interested to know just how he acquired such a unique plate? Below is the process which applies to each US state.

The first step is to see if the plate you want is available. That search can be done online, and it will tell you immediately. You can keep entering in different combinations into the website, until you get something you like. You can get a maximum of seven characters, but you can opt for what they call a Kids Health and Safety plate

This plate allows up to six letters or numbers. I chose this so I could add a heart on the plate to symbolize my love for the car, but you can also get a number of other special characters. They call it that because I think the revenue funds children’s health and safety programs. On many of the other series, you’re limited to a combination of seven numbers or letters.

Once you confirm that the plate you want is available, you can pay online. As part of the application process, you must tell them what the plate means. I’m sure you can understand why! As I understand it, there is a review board that reviews all applications, and only after clearance from that review are you notified that your plates are available for pick up at the local Department of Motor Vehicles. They have numerous license plate series that can be personalized, and I believe the fees are a bit different depending on the series. The cost to apply is $53, that’s what I was charged, and there is also an add on to the annual license renewal fee, which is an additional $40 beyond what I would normally have to pay.

I have two lapis grey Figaros, and the other one has a license plate that has a heart and MY FIG.
