Moffat Classic Car Rally Show – 29th June 2025

Words and Pictures by Ken Graham, Scottish Chapter Coordinator.

June had 5 weekends this year, and the Scottish Chapter had a Figaro event on each one of them!

The Moffat Rally & Show was the second of the two-day events and involved an overnight stay if you were planning to participate in the Saturday drive-out. Three cars were involved in the drive and had a leisurely breakfast before registration and assembly at the Showground, before setting off around 11:30 am/12 noon.

The Borders scenery is stunning, and the drive took us to Tweedsmuir (where we were saluted by an ‘AA Patrolman’ stationed at a vintage AA Box) before a sharp right turn and a serious climb (watch these temp gauges!) up to the Talla Reservoir. Onwards then to St Mary’s Loch and an equally stunning drive back down to Moffat, interrupted only by a stop off to support the local hall providing teas, coffees and cake, raising funds towards the hall’s running costs.

On Saturday evening, we were joined by Fiona and Les, who were attending on the Sunday, and we all had a lovely meal together at The Star Hotel. As Figgy Folk do, dinner was preceded by an interesting dance down Moffat High Street!!!

The Sunday weather was fantastic, and we were fortunate to have some shade from trees at our display spot. As usual, we were extremely popular with the public, with the usual questions and expressions of outright desire for a Figaro!

One person whose desire has finally been met was Paul Mehan from Ayrshire Classic Car Club, who had been telling me for about FIVE years he was ‘Going to get a Figaro’! Well, his Figaro had been delivered off a transporter only a day or so earlier, and unfortunately, too late to be brought to the show, so he brought along his Ferrari instead!!

Paul’s Ferrari featured on the opening scene of the Moffat Show video we were lucky enough to share on the Chapter FB page – as did Heather and Reid Martin in their Figaro on the closing credits!

After five consecutive weekends of shows, the Chapter (and Chapter Coordinator!) is taking a bit of a deserved break!

The Moffat Show is becoming a staple of our calendar every year, and is definitely worth planning for. It would be nice to see some of our North England Figgy Folk popping over the Border next year if they fancy it – I’ll get the invitations prepared!!

Thanks again to Carol, Libby and Trevor, Heather and Reid, and Fiona and Les for supporting the Club once again – the less said about the dancing in the High Street, the better!!
