Insurance – Update for UK members

Since Brexit, there have been a number of key changes you need to be aware of so we asked Classicline Insurance to bring us up to date.

It has been a while since we last had an insurance overview, so we have asked the team from ClassicLine Insurance, the Figaro Owners Club insurance scheme partners, to provide us with a quick roundup and a guide to what’s new with the insurance scheme.

Quick intro…
ClassicLine Insurance has been the club’s insurance scheme provider since 2009 and Ian, Darren, and the team are familiar faces at the shows. The insurance scheme has evolved over time with the support and input from the Figaro Owners Club and its members. Our competitor research shows us that our cover is the highest quality specialist vehicle insurance on the market and is offered at competitive prices.

Because our expert team understands the Nissan Figaro and what a joy it is to drive, this means we can spend more time listening to your individual requirements. So, if there is something specific you need, just let us know.

Driving abroad in 2021
If you are planning on taking your cherished car abroad once Covid-19 travel restrictions have been lifted, we can issue you with a Green Card if required (as of February 2021 these have been re-introduced). This is a document that proves that you have the minimum compulsory insurance cover required by the law of the country being visited. If you are towing, you will also need a green card for your caravan or trailer. You must carry a physical copy of your green card when driving abroad, with electronic versions not acceptable. Don’t forget your GB stickers too!

Why have agreed value cover
By obtaining a valuation from the Figaro Owners Club or from Classicline’s in-house team, you’ll have the peace of mind that your one-off, unique vehicle has been valued accurately and will therefore be insured at its true value should you ever experience a total loss. This is by far the most important reason why Figaro Owners Club members should always insure with a specialist provider such as Classicline.

Don’t forget that your valuation needs to be renewed every two years Learn more

Use a specialist repairer
Accidents happen. That’s why we have insurance. So, if you make an insurance claim and your car can be repaired, we will agree with you on how to repair it.

The benefit of insuring with Classicline is that can choose a repairer. You may want to choose a garage that offers a high-quality service that you are happy with, or one that is local to you. Whoever you choose, it’s important to ensure that you use a repairer who is familiar with the specialist requirements of your vehicle. Not only should you be ensuring that the garage or mechanic understands the needs and complexities of a classic car, but genuine replacement parts are used to maintain the value of your Figaro.

The Figaro Owners Club has a useful Garage Directory on the club’s website. This is a helpful list of Figaro dealers, importers, and garages known to the club and its members for having experience and knowledge of importing, selling, restoring, repairing, and servicing the Nissan Figaro car. This is not an approved list, but we would encourage all Figaro owners to talk to a number of these specialists when they need to get their Figaro repaired following a claim

Once you have shortlisted your repairer, you must send us a detailed repair estimate and full details of the incident before your repairer starts any work. Our insurance advisors will talk you through the steps to get your car back on the road.

Taking your Figaro off the road
We are seeing many customers choose to take their Figaros off the road as they have been unable to use it as much as normal due to the ongoing restrictions.

Although it is not currently a legal requirement to have insurance on a vehicle declared as SORN, it is sensible to do so. This is often when your vehicle is most vulnerable – exposed to fire, theft and accidental damage – be it welding sparks or a family of mice nesting in your upholstery… so don’t forget to cover your off-road vehicle on a laid-up policy.

We must make you aware that it is the vehicle owners’ responsibility to ensure that the car is either taxed or declared as SORN. Failure to do so may result in a fine or penalty.

Benefits of laid up insurance cover
Laid up insurance cover includes accidental damage, fire, and theft as standard. The premium reflects the fact that your car is not being used on the road meaning you will not be paying extra for comprehensive insurance cover when it is not necessary.

The cover will include your tools and spare parts so long as they are in the same garage as your vehicle – something that many home policies won’t cover. We can also now offer agreed value cover for your vehicles on a laid-up policy. Plus, if you are temporarily sending your Figaro off for bodywork or to the paint shop, you will still be covered. Just give us a call in advance so we can make a note of your policy.

Easy ways to renew
For all those who are working around the clock and unable to contact us during regular office hours, you can renew your policy online. Once you have received your renewal invite, visit here to renew online.

Hopefully, see you this year!
Glimmers of hope are beginning to appear for the summer season and one event we are really looking forward to is the Nissan Figaro 30th Birthday Party Weekend 2021 in June. Our team will be at the event so please do say hello if you are there. Here’s to hoping that normality returns soon, and we can get out and enjoy our cars!
