Grandtully & Strathtay Gala Day – 1st June 2025

Words and Pictures: Ken Graham, Scotland Chapter Coordinator

As Figaro Owners, it’s always nice to find a new event to get along to and show off our lovely Figs. In this case, the organiser of the local Gala Day in Grandtully (pronounced ‘Grantly’) and Strathtay, had had a few Classic cars along in 2024 and, having proved very popular, posted up on a Scottish Classic Car Facebook page looking for some more to come along. We were, of course, only too happy to oblige!

Being near Pitlochry and a couple of hours’ drive from home, we had quite an early start at 7.15 am, and it was POURING with rain, so we set off with not a little trepidation! As we drove north, it seemed as though the sky was getting a little brighter, and so it proved—the skies cleared, and we set up in time for the opening in dry weather, and, despite a few ‘spits & spots’, it remained predominantly dry all day.

The beauty of this type of event is that it’s not just a car show – car shows are great, but sometimes just a little bit similar. This was a real Community Day, with baking stalls, tombola, children’s races and dog competitions (waggliest tail, dog you’d most like to take home, etc!!). As you can see from the photos, the scenery was magnificent with the Community Hall located in the rolling hills of Perthshire.

The organiser had even arranged for the public to receive tokens which could be put in a plastic cup beside their favourite car on the day – sadly, even if we had combined all four Figs tokens, we wouldn’t have been close to the winner – a magnificent 1960s Jaguar, which deservedly won! It was a great day and lovely that the organiser specifically thanked us all fro coming and asked if we would return in 2026. We really hope to do so, but our biggest issue seems to be the absolute plethora of great quality events to show our cars that take place in June each year, and particularly in the first couple of weeks! Fingers crossed that the stars align and we can get back to ‘Grantly’ and Strathtay next year!!

It was lovely, too, to meet a couple of new Club Members Ben Brown and Angela Percival who had hoped to attend, but owing to some ongoing work on their Figs, couldn’t bring them along – The did, though, make the effort to come to the event and say ‘hello’! Look forward to seeing them at future events. Thanks, as ever, go to Fiona & Les, Heather & Reid and Libby & Trevor for supporting the Club and coming along.
