Figgys and Chat – Gordon Bennett Run – 2nd June 2025
Words and Pictures: Ireland Chapter Coordinator Dolly Webb
The Irish Chapter of the Figaro Owners Club joined the Gordon Bennet Route on Monday last, receiving a rally pack which included afternoon tea and BBQ that evening, starting at the Heath in Laois. What an experience to be in a rally along some of these very old vintage cars.
Very different rally to what our Figgys do. They so not cruise and they DO NOT go slow. Josephine and I thought “we have” this with our super turbo engines lol.
Well, as we passed the starting line off we went through the beautiful countryside of Laois and Kildare, 100km in total. All along the route, people were out waving. We arrived at the beautiful Monasterevin town, where crowds of people lined the street to welcome us, along with the Gordon Bennet Committee, who once again welcomed us with open arms. I had arrived before Josephine, so I kept her a spot beside me by the time Josephine came in the crowd, where so big she couldn’t get up the street, so the old-time police force escorted her the whole way to her delight or embarrassment, I’m not sure.

We went for afternoon tea in the community hall and met some wonderful people as we chatted away. Our figgys created once again a huge stir even among the members themselves. We got huge crowds and people taking photos, we even managed to secure 2 new members from Cork who were visiting Gordon Bennett’s show and have an aqua blue fig in Cork and didn’t know about our club! So watch this space, Cork!!!! Here we come down south.
I would highly recommend those that are booked in for the Ireland/35th birthday Bash 2026, if anyone is thinking of staying on for a week to do the attire weekend, it’s always the same June bank holiday weekend, so it’s the week after the English bank holiday!!!!!!
