Drive out to Tintern Abbey – Sunday 18 May 2025
We had wonderfully sunny, warm weather and an excellent turnout for the drive to Tintern and Monmouth – 10 cars in all. It was great to be supported by old friends and new, who had travelled from far and wide to attend. Tintern Abbey, is an imposing building, in ruins as a result of orders given by Henry VIII to tear down the monasteries but, thankfully, not completely destroyed. It is nestled in the spectacular scenery of the beautiful Wye Valley.
I’m grateful to John and Sue Exton, who suggested this meet at Tintern and the drive out to Monmouth. They arranged with The Anchor Inn, which is situated opposite the Abbey, that the Figaro Club cars be allowed to park as a group in the overflow car park. It was great to see all the cars lined up together, which drew lots of interest from visitors to the area. John and Sue’s suggestion that we book lunch at The Anchor was ideal – the Sunday carvery was delicious, but there was also a varied menu to suit all tastes.
It was great to have time to chat to everyone, to learn a little about each other and the history behind our attraction to these fabulous little cars.
From Tintern, John and Sue led us, in convoy, through the wonderful Wye Valley to the pretty market town of Monmouth with its ancient bridge over the river Monnow, where we were able to easily park and explore the town.
Thanks
I’d like to thank our unofficial photographer/videographer Phil, aided and abetted by his lovely partner, Charlotte, who offered to organise the photo shoot at the Abbey. I’d also like to thank everyone who attended yesterday for their time and support, and hope that we’ll meet again soon on another Figgy drive. “
