Nissan Figaro Car Covers Pros and Cons
We are hurtling towards winter in the UK, and some of us are thinking about how best to take care of our precious Figaros during the inevitable bad weather.
Of course, we know that the best protection we can give our Figgys is to put them in a garage, but that isn’t an option for everyone. If you’re contemplating buying a car cover for your Figaro, read on for our helpful advice!
When considering whether to buy a car cover, there are many benefits to consider.
- The first big tick is that it helps to keep the car dry during poor weather. As we know, a wet car leads to rust which is a big Fig enemy, so we need to do all we can to reduce the opportunity for it to get a toe hold.
- Car covers are also great at protecting an outdoor Figaro from environmental damage like dust and sun, or reducing the impact of anything caught in the wind. Hail can also cause problems if it’s hard enough!
- And as if all of that isn’t enough, it will also give protection from pesky bird droppings, if Tweety Pie is rude enough to sully your car with one!
There are some notes of caution to sound as well, because nothing is ever completely straightforward (especially where Fig ownership is concerned!) The main one is to do with keeping the car aired. If the cover is left on for extended periods, then there is a risk of moisture build up in the car which can lead to mould and a lot of cleaning to be done when your Fig comes out from under the cover. Some users have also mentioned that if a cover doesn’t fit well it can rub against the body and cause damage to paintwork.
If you keep your Fig outside for any significant periods, then a car cover can be a good investment.
If you decide to take the plunge, here are some things we’d suggest bearing in mind:
- Make sure you buy a four layer cover, rather than a single layer – this will offer your Figaro the best available protection. A cover featuring a soft lining will reduce the risks of scratching the paintwork.
- Look for a breathable fabric to allow air to circulate and moisture to escape – this will reduce any problems with moisture becoming trapped in the car and causing mould.
- Buy the best cover that you can afford – nothing is cheap these days, but when it comes to a car cover, cheap ones are a false economy if they end up causing damage. Don’t forget that Figaro Owners Club members benefit from a discount on several different car covers which helps stretch the pennies a bit further. - Make sure that your cover is fitted securely – this will prevent it moving around in the wind and reduce the risk of any damage to the paintwork.
- Remove the cover once a week to air the car – this will help reduce the risk of damp accumulating in the car leading to problems with mould.
- Don’t leave the cover on for long periods and consider leaving it off during dry weather – we know Figs are made for good weather, so if it’s dry and bright (but not too sunny and hot!) then consider leaving the cover off.
- Don’t use a cover on a car that’s been newly painted – this can sometimes lead to problems with your new paintwork, so leave it off for at least 3 and ideally 6 months.
