Millport Classic – 20th June 2026

Joint Scotland Community Coordinator reports in on a car show on an island in the Firth of Clyde … and a member’s split allegiances!!

Now celebrating its tenth year, the Millport Classic Car Show has grown from around a dozen cars to hundreds attending this year. In the early years Jimmy, the organiser, to encourage attendance, actually paid for everyone’s ferry to cross to Millport on the Isle of Great Cumbrae! With the increasing numbers after a few years, that very quickly became impractical. However, we are all now very happy to pay our own crossings to this wonderful event!

It was an early start to catch the 7.45/8am ferry from Largs before the real queues of Classics began to build up. I thought I was early, but Bob & Liz Hughes had, I think, caught the first ferry at 6.40am and had arrived even before the event grounds at Garrison House were open!

We had 8 Figaros registered but bumped into Club member Paul Meehan in the ferry queue who was bringing his Fig with Ayrshire Classic Car Club. He was happy to park up with our group, so we had a fantastic group of nine in the end. Some further travelled members did get caught up in the ferry congestion and took just a bit longer to arrive.

Millport, being on an island in the Firth of Clyde, is susceptible to all sorts of weather – thankfully it stayed dry and the sun shone which really makes this event a joy!

Also, (if you read my report from the Tayside Show the previous weekend), I DID remember to bring the pump for the inflatable gazebo!!!

The show is always a relaxed event, allowing for time for a stroll along the promenade and chance for a coffee/lunch/drink in one of the many cafes or pubs in the town.

Once again our stand was very popular – the number of return visitors and those who have never seen a Figaro never fails to astound me!

Everyone had a great time and I, as always, express my thanks to everyone supporting the Club by coming along, Carol; Bob & Liz; David & Kerry; Heather & Reid; Merv & Mags; Gwyn & Marc and Fiona and David (not forgetting Paul who’s allegiances were split on the day!!)

We’ll be back in 2027 I’ve no doubt!

As things wound up around 4 or 5pm those staying overnight headed for a relaxing drink, whilst this of us without that luxury joined the inevitable return ferry crossing queue! At least the sun shone and we had the top down for the drive back to Glasgow!

Thanks so much for organising this Ken! Considering how Paul usually dresses we are truly shocked that he could have eyes for any other car!!
