Figgys and Chat, Norfolk – 13th July 2025

Words and Pictures by Adam Woods, Eastern England Chapter Coordinator

Variety is the spice of life, as they say, and with various car show events coming up, we wanted to do something a little less formal, giving members a chance to relax and chat with a short drive in between.

Mandy mentioned to us about Goodies Food Hall being a great place for a bit of lunch, so we set about finding somewhere we could meet beforehand, that would include somewhere for beeps and waves along the route, and to enjoy some lovely Norfolk countryside too.

The day before, we headed out to check the route, just in case some roadworks had sprung up to foil our plans and to check that we had most of the turns covered off in the route information we’d put together.

Sunday itself was a lovely sunny day, but with enough cloud cover to make it pleasant rather than too hot! We arrived at Broken Egg Cafe just before 10 am to find that they had managed to allocate us some Figgy Parking, which was a great surprise! Two new Figgy owners had already arrived and were tucking into some breakfast… having said hi, we headed back out to greet members as they arrived one by one in the sunshine. It’s always lovely catching up with Figgy folk – they just seem to have a natural enthusiasm for life! Along with a few chats about Figgy nuances, we were all ready to set off at 11 am!

We head out from Broken Egg Cafe, down through Harleston with plenty of beeps and waves, and then across country, winding through wooded areas, and then out into the open countryside.

On single-track roads, you’re always nervous about what might happen with cars coming the other way, but delighted to report that our fellow road users were very gracious and thanked us with lots of beeps and waves as they let us all through!

Our journey concluded 30 minutes later as we arrived at Goodies Food Hall, where we knew we had our very own parking ready and waiting for us! Always a joy arriving somewhere, as the Figs always pull a crowd of curious and adoring onlookers. After some jolly photo opportunities, we headed into Goodies, which is very impressive with lots of local produce in an expansive air-conditioned shop… and then through to the restaurant. Initially seated outside, we decided we would be better inside, and so we headed in – the restaurant was very accommodating and provided us with our own space – and the food was delicious. The company and conversation were the main things, though, and we had a lovely time catching up with existing and new members.

Huge thanks for the hospitality enjoyed from both Broken Egg Cafe and Goodies Food Hall, the friendly folk we met along the way – and of course for the lovely members who came along. Thanks all!
