Emma Wallace Wedding Day
Words and Pictures by Emma Wallace
My wedding day last year, as we are fast approaching our first anniversary on 18 May! As you’ll see, my beloved Figgy ‘Summer’ had a starring role in our big day.
‘Summer’ is my second Fig – I was previously a member of this club between 2012-2017 with my first Fig, ‘Sunny’. I was heartbroken to sell her – she was my first car, but she was also my daily driver, and I felt that I needed something more practical at that stage of my life. I remember saying to the buyer that I’d always wanted to use her as my wedding car; however, I’d only just started seeing my now-husband at the time, and marriage was not on the cards anytime soon! I teared up when they drove her away, and my dad said to me, “You’ll be able to buy another Fig one day if you want to – one that’s even *better* than Sunny.”
5 years later, in 2022, I decided to buy another Fig and immediately got in touch with Sunny’s buyer to see if they might consider selling back, but to no avail! It took 6 months of searching before I finally found one locally – little did I know that it would take another 2 months of racing against a Figaro dealer to buy her, waiting for her pre-arranged sale to Jersey to fall through, only to rush up to Manchester and bring her back to her hometown of Cambridge, before I’d finally get to bring ‘Summer’ home!!! But my dad was right – she WAS in better condition than my first Fig and with lower mileage too. I was even more thrilled when her VIN revealed that she was the very last Pale Aqua to roll off the production line (and registered in March 1992, when I was born!). Later that same year, my boyfriend finally(!) proposed – it was obvious what our wedding car was going to be.
I think the Fig brought a bit of magic to our wedding day. The start of the day was pretty grey, and just when we arrived at the reception venue, ready for our grand entrance, as we put the roof down, the clouds cleared and the sun came out for the rest of the day. Now, how else do you explain that?! 😉
