Cornwall Figaro Rally – Sunday 3rd/Thursday 7th September 2017

Organised by club member Patrick Light, this event took place on the 3rd – 7th September 2017.  24 cars and 38 people attended the event.

Day 1

Was the welcome night at 7pm where everybody was given their name badges and their welcome packs and we had a meeting explaining what we were doing for the rest of the week.

Day 2

After a hearty breakfast at HQ Tricky’s hotel we aimed for a 9.30am start but as with all Figaro rallies that is flexible !! We headed off just after photo shoot towards Portreath and onto Godrevy  Point for a 11/5 hr stop to walk the cliffs and watch the seals and pups, then headed off towards Hayle and then onto St Ives where we parked up and had 2 hrs in St Ives looking around and to meet back up for a once in a life time drive through the harbour of St Ives where the harbour  came to a stand still and everybody stopped what they were doing to watch us driving through beeping our horns and hands a waving, it was just magical. We then headed off towards the 9 miles of the Zennor coastline with saddle back cows sitting in the middle of the road and then onto Penzance to drive along the promenade and passing St Michaels mount on the way back to HQ.

Day 3

Was going to be a long day as we had over 150 miles to travel. We first headed to Porthtowan and then onto Perranporth were we stopped in a car park and gave everybody a pastie and a saffron bun that we had arranged to be delivered to us. We then headed off to Healeys cider farm were we had a 1 3/4 hr stop to look around the bottling plant. After this was a drive through Newquay,Wadebridge, Mawgan Porth and a drive through Padstow harbour once more with hands on horns and heads turning and hands waving. We then headed off to Polzeath, Port Isaac, Tintagel and Boscastle. After this point it was a lovely drive from Crackington Haven to Widemouth Bay on small narrow lanes with 30% hills and the cliffs very close to the passengers side, an amazing stretch of road and everybody loved it. After this was a drive back to HQ.

Day 4

A prompt 9.30am start and headed our way to Falmouth, I have planned for us all to park on the pier after speaking to the harbour master, after some manoeuvring we managed to park all the cars on the pier and what a sight it was. We then all boarded the Enterprise boat for a 1 1/5 hr river cruise up the Fal and stopped off for lunch at the Heron Inn and then caught the next boat back at 2pm. After working our way through the crowds of admirers we managed to get back in our cars. We then headed off to Feock to board the King Harry car ferry for a short trip to the Roseland peninsular and for a drive back to HQ to get ourselves ready for the evenings entertainment with was a Pirate fancy dress night where everybody did us proud and there was some fantastic costumes. We then handed out certificates for best cars.

Day 5

Was a sad day and lots of tears as it was time to say goodbye to everybody. 10 mths in planning and all went to plan, Sarah and I are so pleased that everybody said they had a fantastic time. Stay tuned as we will be doing it all again in 2019.

Many thanks to Patrick, Sarah and their Figgy Hattie.
