Key – Reproduction of the original Nissan Figaro Key Blank

The original Nissan Figaro Key was very pretty and included a nod to the Fleur De Lys design elements of the car. Unfortunately, the original key (part number KEY0000066) has become very rare and we understand, no longer available from Nissan.

Two of our club members, Jean Michel Decroix and Calu Thierry have re-created the key blank.

How do I get the key to work on my Figaro?

OPTION 1 – I have a key
Assuming you have a key, you simply take it to a locksmith who cut automobile keys and they will cut a copy of the profile into the new key.

OPTION 2 – I don’t have a key but I do know the 3-4 digit number
If you do not have a key, you will need the 3 or 4-digit number which is printed on the side and you will need to take this number and the blank key to a Nissan Dealer.

OPTION 3 – I don’t have a key and I don’t know the 3-4 digit number
To access this you will need to join our club as this information is not public to safeguard our member’s cars.

Disclaimer
Following the first deliveries of blank keys, some buyers ended up with a key that did not work. Here is some information and some tips to get a perfect key: La Figaro uses NSN11 coding (Nissan 11). This protocol defines the shape of the blank key and the method used to cut it.

There are 2 methods to get a duplicate car key:

  • Copying from an existing key
  • Cutting a key from the factory’s code

Copying an existing key seems the simplest and easiest method. But it is the one that carries the most risk. Indeed, the copy is never 100% identical to the original, either because of copying errors, or because the original key has worn out over the years (the Figaros are 30 years old), and the shape isn’t “perfect”. If, in addition, the copy is made with a master key which is already a copy, the errors add up and the risk of failure is significant. Cutting a key with the code makes it possible to find the original profile, it is a “new” key, without wear and perfectly matched with the locks. To be able to cut a key with the code, your locksmith must be in possession of a digital machine (often car locksmiths have this type of machine, the “minute keys” having only copying machines). Before cutting a key, you must be in possession of the 4-digit code corresponding to your locks (all the locks of your car must be able to be opened with the same key). And the machine must be able to use the NSN11 coding, this is used in particular on the Nissan Micra (March) from 1983 to 1996 for example. If you do not know the code for your locks, it is possible to find it quickly.
