NEC Classic Motor Show – Friday 11th/Sunday 13th November 2016

The club set up camp in hall 5 of the Classic Motor Show NEC to spread the figgy love. Club founder, editor and general tea maker Kevin takes up the story of a hectic 3 days…

Now I confess that the Figaro is a bit special to us but even we wondered if this person had seen some of the other beautiful cars on display in the other halls.  But as they say ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder and who are we to argue. The cars did look totally stunning with the paintwork reflecting like a highly polished mirror and chrome gleaming in the overhead lights. Even I had to remind myself that all of these vehicles really are 25 years old! Our stand was much bigger than before and located by a major stairwell that provided excellent foot-fall throughout. The constant flow of visitors and interest in the car from car buffs, petrol heads and the media gob-smacked us all.

Having all four colours on display allowed us to explain the season colours… Spring is Emerald Green etc..  Our ‘Info Board’ also proved a real boon explaining the car’s quirky attributes and provenance, such as the emergency break-down flare, lottery draw and so on.

These events however are very hard work with 3 days of 9 hours plus on your feet! It would be remiss of me not to make a special mention about Ken Graham & Richard Sneddon. These two went well beyond the call of duty and must have spoken to hundreds of visitors over the three days.

Thanks to my long-suffering wife Sue for her usual support and to Janet who helped man the stand on Friday
